Virtual Learning at Its Best

Our teachers hold live virtual classes on a set schedule throughout the week for most K-12 courses. During these virtual classes, students and teachers engage with each other and the subject matter as they would in any other classroom. Students are expected to actively participate in all live classes.

A few of our courses – mainly in the upper grades – assign students to work autonomously via guided instruction. In these courses, students learn to work independently and meet periodically with their classmates and teacher for live virtual instruction to reinforce lessons and keep course progress on track.

For students who show an advanced grasp of mathematical concepts, our Advanced Instruction challenges students within their grade-level math course with a faster pace of instruction, more difficult assignments, or may place students in a higher level course.

For students who are struggling with individual courses or experiencing general academic deficiencies, we provide academic support through small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring with one of our licensed teachers in one of our virtual classrooms.

Lumen high school students have the opportunity to partake in tuition-free concurrent enrollment at Utah Valley University (UVU) and through the Utah System of Technical Colleges (UTECH).

Concurrent Enrollment at UVU:

• In our General Education Certificate high school track, students can earn up to 35 college credits in General Education courses.
• In our Associate's Degree track, students have the opportunity to earn a University Studies Associate Degree (60 credits total).

Concurrent Enrollment through UTECH:

• Students take courses from any of Utah's eight technical colleges for college credit.

At Lumen Scholar Institute, we know that every family learns differently. Our elementary students enjoy a balanced schedule with live teacher-led classes and flexible independent learning time, while our secondary students can choose the learning path that works best for them—attending live classes, learning through recorded lessons, or combining both with teacher support. Our flexible approach allows students to learn in a way that fits their goals, schedule, and lifestyle.
