Meet Your School Guidance Counselor
Michelle Leonard
Counselor
As Lumen’s school guidance counselor, I provide academic, mental health, and counseling support to help your student thrive both in and out of school. I provide a variety of counseling services to Lumen scholars based on their individual needs and am available to meet with both students and their parents during regular school hours. I encourage all students and teachers to reach out if they are in need of academic or emotional counseling.

How School Counselors Help Students at Lumen Scholar Institute
Our School Counseling Center is Here for You
What does our school guidance counselor do?
The services provided by school counselors make a significant positive impact on the physical, mental, and educational wellbeing of the students who engage with counselors for support. While working with Lumen’s counselor provides students with numerous intangible benefits, the following are a few concrete examples of how our school counselor helps students every day.
Support
Schedule a One-on-One Counseling Appointment
Our door is always open. If you have any concerns about your child, their mental health, or their performance in school, please schedule a counseling appointment today.
Fulfilling Graduation Requirements
There is no one path to graduation and each student will chart their own educational journey. Our school guidance counselor is there to help guide that journey and ensure each and every student fulfills all requirements for graduation on or before schedule.
College & Career Prep
It’s never too early to start planning for college or your future career. Our counselor helps students find SAT and ACT testing resources, scholarships, information on colleges and university applications, post-graduation career opportunities, and more.
Student Mental Health Management
We want every student to thrive both academically and emotionally, and mental health and wellness are a big part of your child’s happiness and success. Our professional counselor is trained to provide mental health support and can provide access to outside resources to ensure your child’s mental health needs are met.
Crisis Intervention & Stabilization
If needed, our counselor can recommend resources for crisis intervention and stabilization services that provide short-term intensive mental health care for students who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis.
Guidance
When and how should I seek help for my child?
Sometimes it can be difficult to tell if it’s “just a phase” or if your child needs to seek help and support. If you’re questioning whether your child needs additional help, please reach out to our school guidance counselor.
