Responsibilities
Lumen Scholar Institute has a governing Board of Trustees consisting of volunteer parents/guardians, grandparents, and community members. Their responsibilities include ensuring the school honors the original charter document and the accompanying State laws that govern the school, as well as enacting policies that further the mission and goals of Lumen Scholar Institute.
The Board of Trustees oversees the financial health of the school. The Audit Committee includes the Treasurer and all budgets are approved by the Board of Trustees and published on the Utah Public Finance website. In accordance with Utah Code Ann. Section 53G-7-309, the governing board receives a budget report each month. This budget report includes the following information: (i) the amounts of all budget appropriations; (ii) the disbursements from the appropriations as of the date of the report; and (iii) the percentage of the disbursements as of the date of the report. The current budget report is available for public review and previous reports are available in the monthly meeting minutes. You can view all budget reports here. Budget reports can also be found in the monthly board meeting minutes.
Stakeholders may report concerns of fraud, waste, abuse, or non-compliance directly to the school administration or Board of Trustees. Alternatively, stakeholders may report such concerns directly to the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) through the Public Education Hotline at (801) 538-7813 and full information is available on the Internal Audit website.
